Villa Villekulla bio picture

Welcome to Villa Kulla!

A bemused tale of how one Dane, 2 Ethiopians, a Detroiter and an American/Dane found Pippi Longstocking's house in the Baltimore area and moved right in. Technically Pippi's house is in Sweden, but moving there would have been a commuter nightmare- so we found the closest thing to Villa Villekulla in our neck of the woods.

Our house is an old, money pit and John and I are learning to be crafty- very, very crafty. This blog is my little place to journal  and post photographs of our children, Kaia (8), Josie (6) and Noah (4) as they grow, and to share my decor obsession by posting visual and tasty things I find on the internet and elsewhere.

Thanks so much for stopping  by!

Finally going home.

R and I woke up early and rushed to the Embassy hoping against all odds that her waiver was approved or at least that it would be approved before the Embassy closed at 11.45 am. We basically camped out in there and waited. I was very anxious because I knew that if the waiver would...

R’s final farewell.

It has been so long since I have posted on my blog that I don’t even know where to begin. Think I will start with R’s goodbye ceremony at the orphanage the day before we left. R was incredibly excited to have her ceremony. It was almost like a rite of passage for her. I...

Monday Update with Good News

TODAY it finally happened! We had our embassy interview AND filed the 1601 waiver. Am so relieved to have this over with. Now we wait for the waiver to be approved.
R and I celebrated by taking a walk on Churchill street and we bought a few things. Although I am terrible at haggling, I did...

Nurse R

It’s my blog and I’ll whine if I want to. I woke up this morning feeling awful and I had promised R that we would go to the orphanage and had plans to visit a market I passed by the other day. It is very difficult to explain to a 6 year old who does...

Saturday – K & J fly home

FINALLY after standing in line at Ethiopian Airlines every morning for the past week K and J were confirmed on the flight home. They left a few hours ago. R and I were sad to see them go and it felt strange and empty in the hotel room after they took out the rollaway bed...

Friday Again

Yesterday we splurged and took the girls to Abyssinia, a restaurant with traditional dancing and singing. The girls LOVED it. J was very impressed by the presentation of the food as you can see here in the photo. R stood up the entire time doing the shoulder movements to the rhythm of the music. She...

Boring update with photos

Today has been uneventful. We did find out that that the passport will be ready tomorrow morning. We will see if our agency will take us for another 5 hour sightseeing trip on the way to pick it up. If it works out and we actually get it in the morning R will be able...
