Villa Villekulla bio picture

Welcome to Villa Kulla!

A bemused tale of how one Dane, 2 Ethiopians, a Detroiter and an American/Dane found Pippi Longstocking's house in the Baltimore area and moved right in. Technically Pippi's house is in Sweden, but moving there would have been a commuter nightmare- so we found the closest thing to Villa Villekulla in our neck of the woods.

Our house is an old, money pit and John and I are learning to be crafty- very, very crafty. This blog is my little place to journal  and post photographs of our children, Kaia (8), Josie (6) and Noah (4) as they grow, and to share my decor obsession by posting visual and tasty things I find on the internet and elsewhere.

Thanks so much for stopping  by!

My Daughter the Swing Voter

While rummaging through my first graders back pack yesterday- looking for homework, half eaten apples, stray sweaters etc, I unexpectedly came across a photo of McCain peeping out beneath her folders.Yikes! This was so not what I was expecting to find in a Hello Kitty backpack. My first reaction was outrage. Surely her school was...

Pooper Extraordinaire

My mom is FINALLY here and I am breathing a huge sigh of relief. Between non-stop election coverage at work and a constantly traveling husband we have had a bit of a chaotic time lately. One week here now, she is starting to show some signs of wear and tear. This is not an easy...

Expensive Fashionista

I guess uber hockey mom and VP wannabe Sarah Palin checks her folksiness at the door of Neiman Marcus.
Politico.com is reporting today that the RNC has spent $150,000 on styling and outfitting her since she entered the campaign in late August. Apparently- in addition to her inability to form coherent sentences without a team...

Powell Endorses Obama

Powell says that the Republican party- his party- has moved too far right. That McCain’s message is moving too far right. That the tone at the rallies is cause for concern, and that Palin is not ready to become President.
Watch this.

A Night on the Town with C- (a true story)

You know you are getting too old to go to bars when:
1. On your way out with the girls you realize that ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ is on and you wish you could just stay in the car with your Diet Coke and your banana and listen to the whole thing.
2. On your first visit...

Digging Deeper

In continuation of Blog Action Day, I am posting this story that was written by another adoptive mom. I got to know her very well while we both were waiting for our girls in Ethiopia. I consider her a great friend and am thrilled that she is willing to share her experience. She prefers to...

Giving Back

Today is Blog Action Day, bloggers can write about social justice issues. This year the subject is poverty. Something I have not personally experienced, but have witnessed just as anyone who has ever been to a 3rd world country.
Although poverty is a reality around the world, I am writing about Ethiopia. I have chosen...

My First Meme

I was finally tagged..sheesh…. it took me 10 months to reach this blogging milestone. Truth be told, I wasn’t so much directly tagged- more like I read loscazadores blog and interpreted her prompt as a personal invitation. Sadly, I tend to operate this way in life.
I totally lifted this fancy badge thingy...

Husband on the loose at the VP debate

I used to be annoyed when K would email me 5000 photo’s of himself stalking people while he was supposed to be working. But I must admit that I now rather enjoy these email attacks that cause my computer to freeze up and take all night to download. Because at least this way, I get...
